How to play
PropertyGeo is a free map game about UK property. Every day there are five new clues built from real figures: house prices, rents and odd property facts. Read the clue, drop a pin where you think it is, and see how close you got.
The basics
- Read the clue. For example: "Semi · £134k in 2016 → £184k in 2025. Where?"
- Drop your pin. Pinch or use + and − to zoom, then tap the map. You can move the pin before you lock it in.
- Lock in. A line flies from your pin to the answer and you see the real place, the figures and a photo.
Scoring
Each round is worth up to 1,000 points, so the best possible day is 5,000. The closer your pin, the more you score. Points drop off smoothly with distance, so being 5 km out is still a good score but 300 km out is not. Some rounds have more than one right answer (for example a "top 5"), and any of them counts.
The types of round
- 🏷️ Price history: what a real home sold for, then and now.
- ⚡ Price shocker: a home whose price jumped or fell more than you'd expect.
- ⏳ Time machine: prices from the 1990s compared with today.
- 🕵️ Market mystery: "Homes here cost £X and rent for £Y a month. Where?"
- 📊 Property facts and top 5s: the cheapest, priciest and fastest-rising places in the country.
- 💷 What £X buys: what a typical budget gets you in different towns.
- 🎲 Mad Facts: the strange side of British property, from the smallest house in Great Britain to a shark in a roof.
- ⭐ Famous Faces: a clue about a celebrity's home or home town, with the name revealed at the end.
- 🌍 Overseas rounds: now and then the map goes worldwide.
Streaks, sharing and reminders
A new game appears at midnight UK time. Play on consecutive days to build a 🔥 streak. At the end you can share your score as a grid of emojis, without spoilers, so friends can try to beat you. You can also turn on a free 8am reminder on your phone, and turn sounds on or off with the 🔊 button.
Want to keep playing?
After today's five rounds you can replay yesterday's game, a random past game, or themed packs made from past rounds. Every past game, with its answers, is on the past games page.
Where the figures come from
Prices come from HM Land Registry Price Paid Data. Affordability, rents and census figures come from the Office for National Statistics. Council tax comes from GOV.UK. Every Mad Fact is checked against a published source. Photos come from Wikimedia Commons and Geograph under Creative Commons licences and are credited on each photo. Figures are rounded and approximate, and the game is for fun, not financial advice.
