This notice explains what information PropertyGeo (propertygeo.co.uk) uses and why. PropertyGeo is run by Landlord's Corner (Park Lodge Operations Limited). If you have any questions, email [email protected].

The short version

Information kept on your device

The game uses your browser's local storage to remember your results, streak, settings (such as sound and map style) and whether you've seen the introduction. This stays on your device. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings, which resets your stats.

Anonymous game counts

When you play, the game sends simple anonymous counts to our server, such as "a game was started", "round 2 was answered, 14 km away, 820 points", "a score was shared", "an advert slot was shown" or "a link to Landlord's Corner was clicked". To see whether players come back, the game also sends the number of the first PropertyGeo you played (for example "#3"), which is remembered only on your device. We also count, as totals only, how people found the game (for example "came from Instagram") and the rough area a game was played from (for example "UK · Wales" or the nearest big town). The rough area is worked out by our host, Cloudflare, from the internet connection; we never see or store the IP address itself. We use these to improve the game and to show "how you compare" figures. We don't store names, email addresses, IP addresses or any ID that could identify you or your device.

Site analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page visits. It doesn't use cookies and doesn't track you across other websites.

Daily reminders

If you turn on the 8am reminder, your browser gives us a push address so we can send one notification a day. We store only that address, and delete it when you turn reminders off or when it stops working. We don't currently collect email addresses.

Adverts and cookies

To keep PropertyGeo free we may show adverts from Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technology to show adverts and measure them, and, if you agree, to make them more relevant to you. When adverts are switched on, visitors in the UK and Europe will see a consent message from Google first. If you decline, you may still see adverts, but they won't be personalised, and the game works exactly the same. You can change your choice at any time using the privacy link on the consent message or in your browser settings. Learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Some rounds may show a clearly labelled sponsor message. Clicking it takes you to the sponsor's website, which has its own privacy policy. We don't share your information with sponsors.

Maps and photos

The map is loaded from OpenFreeMap and the satellite view from EOX. Photos are loaded from Wikimedia Commons. When your browser loads these, the services involved receive your IP address, as with any website. We don't control how they use it, so please see their own privacy notices.

Links to Landlord's Corner

Some links go to our sister site, Landlord's Corner. They include a short tag (for example "utm_source=propertygeo") so we can see which links people find useful. Landlord's Corner has its own privacy notice.

Children

PropertyGeo is a general-audience game. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights over your personal information, including the right to ask what we hold and to ask us to delete it. Because we don't store information that identifies you, there is usually nothing for us to look up, but please email us if you have any questions. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes

If we change how we use information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
